In time of starting a secondary school Laura just began cancer treatment. She missed half of school classes and had a hard time to settle down with a new school and new school friends.
Born leader and exrtroverted as she was, she wanted to be accepted and loved, to have many school friends like in the primary school.
Sometimes she was feeling lost coming to classes after period of time of her treatment, but her humor and her wit were to her rescue. Once she said to me : “mama? my new school friends are all in groups and I still don’t belong to any group, I feel lost, and I just fly like a bee.” Becky and Mandy were first to accept her and they stayed the best friends till the end.
Despite Laura’s entertaining and apparently outgoing nature, she was very responsible child, wanted always to be on time and to catch up with all lessons. She tried very hard to be up to her abilities despite of illness and absence.
At the end of first year she received a special school award for the achievements. She was very proud, walking down the line, to receive the trophy, saying to me: “Mum, next year I want to get awards for all subjects. ”
